Summer is Coming

There are a few tell-tale sign that summer is approaching in South Haven.

First, you can see the open waters of Lake Michigan again! After spending a few months in a deep freeze, nothing is more promising than watching the ice melt, in turn allowing the waves to crash on the pier and it’s beacon. Mother Nature’s spring cleaning of the lighthouse has begun.

Second, Sherman’s Dairy Bar’s new ice cream flavors have debuted. As we always say, nothing beats taking in a sunset with a fresh-dipped ice cream cone in hand. This summer, try Butterscotch Chip or Key Lime Pie, made locally in a ice creamery that has been around since the 50’s.

“More proof,” you say? Downtown has started to buzz, as has the Harbor. The Dyckman Avenue Bascule Bridge is just days away from completion, marking the end to a long winter of being disconnected from the Northside. Shops that were boarded up all season are pulling down the brown paper and bringing in new stock for the summer. Boat slips that sat vacant, unless you count the geese that guard the docks, are welcoming back their floating tenants. Everywhere you look, Spring has sprung and Summer is coming.

Another sign of summer’s impending approach, Leah, Carol, Brett and John can hardly keep with the phone calls! This time of year, people begin to think about what they are going to be doing in June, July, and August. For some (the ones looking for rest, relaxation, rejuvenation, and a good time), that means booking a trip to South Haven. Holiday weekends are filling up very fast, as are the regular weekends. If you’re one of the thousands that will descend upon our beautiful little harbor town this summer, call or book online today. You don’t want to miss out on a great experience because you waited too long!
