Things to do in South Haven
There is never a shortage of things to do in South Haven!
Located less than one mile from our South Haven Hotel, the Kal-Haven Trail is 34.5 miles of pure outdoor enjoyment! Whether you are biking, hiking and horseback riding in the warm months or cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling (when snow is greater than four inches) in the cold months, you will enjoy the beautiful scenery, pass by local farms, cross over old bridges, view wildlife, and pass many points of historical interest.
Coming from South Haven the trail passes through the towns of Grand Junction, Bloomingdale, Gobles and Kendall and ends in Kalamazoo. There are many restaurants and other amenities available for trail users in each of these towns. Along the trail, there are outhouses, picnic tables and water hand pumps, but unfortunately they are not always available.
The Kal-Haven Trail is built on the old abandoned Kalamazoo & South Haven Railroad tracks. The train ties were removed and the 10 foot wide trail is now covered with crushed limestone.
Passes are required to use the trail and can be purchased at many vendors in South Haven including the Michigan Maritime Museum which is right across the river from us, Rock n’ Road where you can also rent bicycles, South Haven Visitors Bureau and the South Haven Chamber of Commerce.
