Lake Michigan doesn’t have salt, sharks, or the Big Sur, but that doesn’t stop an intrepid collection of surfers from hanging ten whever the waves hit just right. Not only will you find traditional surfers, but you’re even more likely to see a kite surfer or two anytime the wind kicks up the whitecaps. On the best days, we’ve seen over 20 kite boarders at a time. The crew at SoHa Surf Shop can answer your questions and help you gear up for your first Great Lakes’ Surf experience!

Biking, Hiking, and Trails

In 2019, South Haven was one of the first communities to be designated a Pure Michigan Trail Town.  And it’s easy to see what, we’re chocked full of biking, kayaking, hiking trials for all.  If you’re bringing your own set of wheels or renting a bike for the day, you’ll love the designated bike path through town. It connects the Van Buren Trail and the Kal-Haven Trail. The Van Buren Trail runs South of town to the State park, with plenty to do there. The Kal-Haven Trail is a former raised train rail bed and runs the 35 miles to Kalamazoo on a slag-stone surface. This trail passes through several small towns and offers a wonderful chance to see the blueberry fields, wildlife, and scenic beauty that makes South Haven one-of-a-kind.

Check out our Great Outdoors page for more information on these trails.
